Last night’s earthquake was a bit scary because I wasn’t sure if things were going to fall out of the cupboards and off the shelves. Nothing did. The cats hid for over an hour under the bed. We just had another quake (3.7) around 4 pm. The cats hid again. The dog isn’t very happy about the ground shaking either. Last night I checked every room, every shelf, closet and cupboard. I pushed everything back in place. I spent about an hour las tnight afterwards feeling nauseous. A typical reaction for me. This is only my third earthquake (fourth if you count this afternoon’s).
I get asked that a lot. Lately I haven’t known what to say. I know there is a lot that is new, but how interesting do others find it? I’m still working on my project, although it has been a slow week coming up to the holiday. I had a seminar end this week, and the other didn’t meet. So I’m off to live in my now quiet head.
I have my costume for Tahitian competition. Well, all but the flower. I have to decide on a flower, and it has to be real. So that means it has to last all day (from 7 am to about 6 pm).
Last weekend I was busy meeting up with friends–even after a long day at the garage sale. It seems that most people are out of town this weekend or have other plans, but perhaps something will come up spur of the moment. A friend is supposed to have a party either Friday or Saturday, but I haven’t heard anything further.
Oh, I finally got a Nintendo Wii, which is supposed to be for my son. I have been playing. It’s a lot of fun. I ended up with a sore arm from playing tennis.
Work? Well, it’s still the same, although it seems that some new interest could provide more immediate funding. Just have to see.
The cats are pretty much the same. So is the dog. I have one cat with an immune disorder, and he’s not looking so good right now. Not much I can do about it other than keep him comfortable. It’s kind of icky to watch him waste away.
It has been cat week here, so it’s time for something different. I have been working on my project these past couple of weeks, but mainly this week. A little bit every day. It’s going to go well. Coming up this weekend I have several choices of things to do: tahitian dancing, going out with friends or be an extra in a movie. Sunday I have an audition. How weird is that? Honestly, I don’t even know what to do.
I’m writing this before the people get here to repair the back fence. Yesterday they didn’t show because it rained a little. Very little. For a few hours. Silly workers. I’m waiting for this morning’s excuse to be that it’s too wet. So I’m waiting to see if they show. I need them to finish the fence as promised in one day, so my dog can go out and not get out. She’s pretty lazy now, but she used to love to get loose and run…and run…and run.
Hey! Yes, you! Vote for me over at the Blogger’s Choice Awards for “Best blog design.” Thanks.
For those who missed it in all the other news yesterday (I nearly missed it),Iwao Takamoto died Monday. I had no idea that he worked for Disney on several films that I absolutely love: Lady and the Tramp and 101 Dalmations. I wasn’t that fond of Scooby–mostly because of the storyline, but I really liked Astro. His work has affected generations past and to come.

A friend of mine was a bit disconcerted by a the fact that in a photo of himself, Hanna, Barbera and Takamoto that he’s the only one left. I don’t see any significance there other than he’s much much younger than they. However, he has a wonderful collection of animation cells, photographs and other stuff from working at Hanna-Barbera with the creators’ signatures. Most of us never knew these three people. He did. What a lucky person!
I came across this article about a small town in Canada who became so fed up with the potholes on main road through their town that they created a calendar with several of them posing nude in the potholes. Yes, the potholes are that big.

The local government officials of Leader, Saskatchewan are the ones in the calendar. Right now their one and only ambulance can’t use the main road. Since they are a small town of only 1,000, they can’t afford to pave the road themselves. I guess it has been like this for years. Some of the potholes are a foot deep and many feet long. The calendar will raise money for the ambulance. I first thought they would use the money for the road.
I laughed until I cried when I read about this. Funny and creative. Of course, I was reminded of the movie based on a real story about the English women who created a “nude” calendar.
Since the dog ate the hummingbird feeder, I replaced it. I didn’t buy the same one, so the hummingbirds checked it out for a few hours before eating. After coming home from hula class, I saw that the new feeder was still hanging but had lost its base and all the sugar water. Somehow she unscrewed the base from the top. At least this time she didn’t chew it to bits. Poor birds. I’m trying to figure out if I can place the feeder high enough that she can’t reach. But I think that may be futile. She can jump. She can stand on her hind feet. When she stands up she’s taller than 6 feet.
I’m in the process of switching to WordPress. At least I hope so. I look at changing blog hosts with dread. It’s so much easier to stick with wht you know. Blogger is making everyone switch to beta, and the likelihood of my template working is very slim. I haven’t even worked with WordPress, so this should be interesting. So far, I have it partially installed on my domain. It sounds like getting the posts and the pictures into WordPress will take up quite a bit of my time.
That was part of yesterday. Otherwise, it was a do-nothing day. I like those once in awhile. Happy. Free. I danced around to music, cleaned a bit and read blogs. Hula and Tahitian classes begin again starting this evening. I haven’t practiced for two weeks, so I’m sure it will be quite a workout.
I got up this morning to find that my Great Dane ate the hummingbird feeder. I don’t even know how she got it off the hook. It’s completely destroyed. She ate the plastic parts. No more yellow bee guards. The insert for the red base with the “flowers” is stuck to the glass jar. Not sure how that happened either. Better yet, she didn’t eat her dog food. Crazy dog. She must be bored, but she hasn’t done this kind of thing in a very, very long time.
Can a former boyfriend really be happy that you have a new boyfriend? I wrote about the ex who seems to call right when I’m seeing someone else. I told him about Mr. O. He said he was happy for me. But is he really? Is that possible? I was never all that happy to hear about his girlfriends. So maybe this is a case of overthinking, but I still have to wonder. I won’t make myself crazy wondering. It was just on my mind this morning.
I’m looking at what I have going on this week. I’m less busy than last week. I have no family out here, so it looks like I will be spending Thanksgiving with my dog and cats. In past years, I have cooked a meal. I don’t eat turkey, so it’s usually chicken. My pets love the smells, but the cats are picky and don’t really eat baked chicken. Crazy cats. The hula/tahitian dance show is Sunday, which means I will be busy all day with that even though I dance for about 10 minutes total.
Whoever got to my website by googling “plumeria poisonous dog eat,” I hope you found your answer. But just in case you didn’t, plumeria isn’t poisonous. It’s an edible flower. The stem of the plant is poisonous. It has some milky fluid that is the problem. Be sure your pets only ate flowers. Check this list. My cats ate a bloom, so I did the same search last week. I nearly called the ASPCA poison control, but the message said it would cost me $55 to talk to someone. I promptly hung up.
