Crazy Writers

11/27/2007

How’s this for sheer craziness? Nigel Tomm wrote a one-sentence book “The Blah Story, Volume 4.” The sentence is 469,375. which makes the book 732 pages. I suppose that is 732 pages of word after word after word. No dialog.

If you read it, where would you mark your spot to come back to later? I’m quite a reader, but even I am not going to read 732 pages at once. This book holds the record for the longest sentence in English literature. Perhaps the title tells us all we need to know.

I found this over at Write Stuff this morning. Here’s the press release.

I Did It!

11/25/2007

I have officially won NaNoWriMo. I reached 50,316 words today. The novel isn’t finished. I haven’t gotten to the point where I can write “The End.” It’s coming though. I have five more days of writing. I can’t believe that I wrote all that. I had a few days where writing 2,000 words was tough and took a long time, but other days 2,000 words came quickly.

Another Update

I apologize for not writing about anything but my novel. I’m currently at 46,852 words. I’m almost there! I can’t wait to see what the winner certificate looks like. I’ll be spending time writing this afternoon. I should have an update tomorrow. The plan is to reach 50,000 words on Monday.

Still Going Strong

11/23/2007

I didn’t get a chance to write on my novel on Wednesday. I’m lucky if I get to write here this whole month. Yesterday was a good day for the novel though. I made up the writing I intended for Wednesday. My word count now stands at 41,500. I meant to write another 500 words yesterday, but I spent too much time at the neighbor’s house in the afternoon.

The Chocoholic

11/19/2007

My son arrived on Friday, nearly on time. The plane was about thirty minutes late. I’m still writing. I am past 36,000 words today.

I have spent more time these past few days either shopping or connecting gaming electronics than I care to. I bought a lot of chocolate before my son got here. By Sunday, he had eaten one and half pounds of chocolate, which meant another trip to See’s.

NaNoWriMo Update

11/13/2007

This poor blog is being neglected. I have so many other things to do, and I’m writing my novel. I am currently at 23,114 words. I’m a little behind what I had been writing (2,000 words a day, which would mean I should be at 26,000). I have an idea where the novel is going. At around 35K to 40K words, one of my characters has to die. It’s not interesting otherwise, and the other characters need something tragic to deal with. I have to devise a secret to be revealed once that character dies. I have no idea what that will be though. I have introduced all my characters, and I now have a total of seven people and two dogs. The dogs are characters too, although minor. There are two main characters, but the others may rise in importance as the novel progresses. Tragedies have a way of bringing out minor players.

Odd Day

11/09/2007

I’m still missing my posts here. I’m currently just over 18,000 words on my novel. It’s starting to get some direction. Right now, the characters are pretty well developed.

Last night was the second to last seminar for sex and intimacy. I would normally be writing the “Friday sex post.” At this point, it should be the “intimacy post.” Last night though, the class didn’t speak to me in the way it normally does. I got something that had nothing to do with the subject of the course. I have been floundering in the leader’s program wondering why I’m doing it. I had forgotten. I knew I had forgotten, but I didn’t know how to get it back. Well, it’s back, but not quite fully present. It will be though.

In this seminar and others, they often say that context is decisive.  Definitely. It’s true in my novel as well. Oh, and intimacy can be found/created anywhere. It was an odd day. Normally I would talk about being a freak magnet. I suppose I still am. However, there is another way to look at it.

Catching Up

11/06/2007

My blog is taking a beating with NaNoWriMo going on. I’m writing like crazy. I spend an hour to 90 minutes a day to write 2,000 words or more. I’m actually impressed with my productivity. I am currently at 12,132 words. I still have very little idea where my story is going. I just introduced four new characters today. Two were mentioned and given names. Two others have a bit more development and will be developed further tomorrow and after.

In addition to writing, I am working the leadership program and managing the measures I have to meet. I am getting closer all the time. I have been decorating for the holidays. My son arrives on November 16. It’s not too far away. My biggest concern right now is getting See’s chocolate balls before he gets here. I went to the store on Monday, but they were out of chocolate balls. I can hardly believe that the holidays are so close. I have lots of grocery shopping to do also.

On My Way…

11/04/2007

I’m currently participating in NaNoWriMo, and I have exceeded last year’s word count. things are going pretty well even though I have no idea where my novel is going. I’m at over 8,000 words today–which is where I should be to meet the 50,000 words by November 30.

Here is a bit of the story:

The sound of the ringing phone didn’t wake her up right away. The phone rang a couple more times before she realized it was the phone. She picked it up answering groggily, “hello?”
“When are you picking me up? You’re late. I’m dressed and waiting,” said the woman’s voice on the other line
It took a couple of seconds to realize who it was. It was Mom. “What is she doing calling me now?” she thought. “What am I late for?”
“What?” she asked.
“When are you picking me up?” she asked insistently.
At that point she looked over at the clock to see that it read 1:05 a.m.
“Mom, it’s one in the morning.”
“Oh, it is not. I have a doctor’s appointment at 1 p.m. today and you were supposed to be here.”
“Shit,” Abby thought. Here she goes again. Confused once again by the time of day.
“Listen, mom,” she said, “it’s the middle of the night. Your appointment is in the afternoon. Go back to sleep.”

Who Won?

11/03/2007

It wasn’t the best day for writing, but I did get this in an email as a diversion.
